Rook - hmm. What about giving him a black crow familiar? Because, a rook, get it. >_> While the elk would be undeniably cool, it might also be somewhat cumbersome in dungeons and catacombs, unless you're able to summon/dismiss it somehow. Or, maybe he might have a thing for playing chess. He doesn't have to be great at it, just enjoys it. Maybe he thinks of himself as a rook because he prefers to move like one, traveling great distances forward/backward/to the side in a single mighty leap.
