That actually sounds a bit like one of the quests in Fallout 4: there's a crew of robots who were originally tour guides for the USS Constitution in Boston, which somehow as a result of the Apocalypse got knocked out of the ocean and inland some distance (really big tidal wave, maybe?), so they've been spending the last century or two trying to engineer a way to get it back to the ocean, but they still play their "roles" as the "Commodore," the "Botswain," etc. However, there are some scavengers who just want to blow up the robots and loot the ship (and the robots) for scrap. You as player basically have an opportunity to side with either the robots or the scavengers; if you side with the robots, there's apparently a way you can do so without actually hurting the scavengers, but so far it has struck me as nigh-impossible.

(I side with the robots. Sorry, but those scavengers are trying to loot government property, and don't terribly mind shooting ME by "accident" if I simply happen to be in their way during the raid. Well, that, and there's a strong indication that they're not merely *scavengers* but that they've thrown in their lot with raiders.)

Anyway, having the PCs be a bunch of robot animatronics would be an interesting scenario, but that sounds more like something to do at a "pizza-parlor-arcade" (i.e., a "Chuck E. Cheese" or "Five Nights at Freddy's" type setup) rather than a drive-in theater. It's certainly something I could work with at some point -- I can imagine it'd be neat to construct a bunch of Fallout-style arcade games as furnishings, and make some weird "animatronic-robot" minis, and the arcade games might double as resources that inventive players could convert into traps and barricades to help fortify against the net scavenger attack -- but that might be a bit further down the line, as another scenario.
